The group was founded in 1973 by Miss Joan Veevers and was known as the Meirionneth Red Cross Group of the Riding for the Disabled Association. For almost 30 years the group rode at Tynsarn, Dolgellau; 1000ft up in the foothills of Cader Idris   In 1998, the group became a charity in its own right, changing its name to Meirionnydd Special Riding Group (MSRG). In 2011 MSRG was awarded the Disablity Sport Wales clubmark.

Currently the group operates from rented facilities at Bwlch Gwyn Trekking Centre.  We rent both the horses and the facilities for each riding session, Riding takes place in a purpose built outdoor school. If it is too wet to ride, riders can add to their stable management skills.  Today our 3 qualified instructors are aided by a team of helpers who are the backbone of the group.  They are drawn from across the age spectrum and from all walks of life.

Currently the group own one horse Sheri who is a great all rounder and trained to offer vaulting, we are currently without a vaulting coach but hope to reoffer this opportunity in the future. We offer basic riding tuition, dressage, showjumping and endurance. Our riders regularly qualify for the RDA National Championships in both Countryside challenge and dressage.

MSRG remains self-funding and all donations are most gratefully received. The local community continues to give outstanding support to the Group which has enabled it to grow and thrive.
